The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
